A Word About Anesthesia

We understand that the use of anesthesia can be scary for some. At Ohana Pet Hospital we strive to make anesthesia as safe a procedure as possible.

Prior to an anesthetic procedure, we conduct a physical exam and blood tests to ensure your pet is healthy and capable of dealing with anesthetic medications. We then create an individualized anesthetic plan tailored for you pet.

Rest assured, while under anesthesia, each of our patients has a dedicated anesthetist who is in charge of monitoring and making adjustments as needed.

Other steps taken to assure your pet’s safety during anesthesia include:

  • Placement of an IV catheter and administration of intravenous fluids
  • ECG and blood pressure monitoring
  • Pulse oximetry (a measure of blood oxygenation)
  • Temperature monitoring
  • Heart and respiratory rate

Please schedule an appointment today if you feel your pet needs surgery, whether that’s for the spaying/neutering of your healthy puppy or kitten, tumor removal from a senior pet, or other surgical procedure.
