Ohana Announces the Veterinary Technology Program at Ventura College
May 5, 2020
Dear Ohana Clients and Community Partners,
We are proud to announce the start of a new Veterinary Technology Program at Ventura College! This is a two-year program for veterinary assistants that will launch in Fall of 2020 at Ventura College’s East Campus in Santa Paula. Potential student candidates who are interested in participating in the program will have to sign up for at least one information session through this Eventbrite link:
https://vettechprogram.eventbrite.com
During these information sessions, prospective candidates will learn about the curriculum, how to register for classes at Ventura College, and what financial aid resources are available to them.
This program is not yet AVMA accredited but is designed to teach basic veterinary assistant courses in year one and progress to year two which helps individuals take the Veterinary Technician National Exam. The accreditation process will take 1-2 years and the program must be in operation before accreditation is granted.
We have been working with Ventura College administrators for the past two years to get this program developed for our community and are excited to see it come together. In 2012 when Ohana first opened, we started working with Charter College’s President to develop their veterinary assistant program that is still going strong today. We have hired 8 Charter graduates from the veterinary assistant program and our fellow veterinary colleagues have gained valuable employees through this system as well. Ohana also works consistently with the high school program headed by Dr. Kathy Jonokuchi at the Career Education Center of the Ventura County Office of Education. They have a year-long introduction to veterinary assisting which has been running for 3 years. We plan to help bridge the high school program into the college system.
Our one request from you today is to help spread the word to those that might be interested in going through the program as well as letting your family, friends, and community know of our on-going community partnership with Ventura College to ultimately produce outstanding veterinary assistants and Registered Veterinary Technicians for our local veterinary hospitals, shelters, rescues and non-profits.
Thank you for helping to spread the word to anyone you know who may be interested in our new Veterinary Technology Program at Ventura College. We appreciate your support of this program that will elevate the caliber of veterinary medicine delivered to your pet, while providing opportunities in animal health for students of Ventura County.
Much Aloha,
Dr. Jan, Dr. Jill, and Dr. Nicci
