Dr. Janis Shinkawa
Dr. Jan Shinkawa (aka Dr. Jan) is the Medical Director and a founding partner of Ohana Pet Hospital.
Born and raised in Honololulu, Hawaii, Dr. Jan started her career as a Certified Public Accountant, working for Ernst & Young, LLP for over five years. In 1996, Dr. Jan began her pursuit of a career in veterinary medicine, a dream since the age of nine. She completed her veterinary studies at Colorado State University in 2002 and moved to Ventura to complete a year long small animal rotating internship at Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group (VMSG). From there, Dr. Jan worked as a general animal practitioner in both Orange County and Ventura before founding Ohana with her business partners and fellow veterinarians in December 2012.
Dr. Jan is an active member in our community having previously served as president of both the Santa Barbara-Ventura Veterinary Medical Association and the National Association of Women Business Owners (Ventura County). She is also an active member of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce’s Green Task Force.
Dr Jan is actively involved, along with her Ohana partners, in leading the effort, bringing together those in our pet community to make Ventura County a 100% No-Kill community. Also, beginning July 1, 2015 she will take the position of President for NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) Ventura County.
When not spending time with Stanley, her lovable chocolate Labrador, Dr. Jan enjoys cycling and training for triathlons.
